Author Talk & Signing with Dan Neal: "No Forgiveness: Family, Polygamy, Murder, and Justice Among Idaho's Pioneering Mormons"

Join us for an evening with journalist and author Dan Neal who will discuss the pleasures and pitfalls he encountered researching and writing the true story behind his debut book, No Forgiveness: Family, Polygamy, Murder, and Justice Among Idaho’s Pioneering Mormons.

On the morning of July 5, 1911, D.S. Neal left his home in Idaho’s Teton Valley to irrigate his field. His neighbor, Ellington Smith, arrived soon after, armed with a Winchester rifle. What happened next would ripple through generations.

Drawing from family letters, historical newspapers, state archives, and interviews, the author presents a detailed narrative of the two families involved, Smith’s insanity defense at trial, the conditions at the Idaho State Penitentiary, and the many prominent businessmen and politicians who took sides in the case.

A former editor of the Casper Star-Tribune, Neal brings decades of journalistic experience to this meticulously researched and powerfully personal history.

Books will be available for purchase at the event, and the author will sign copies following the talk.
