Afternoon Book Club: The Underwild: River of Spirits by Shana Targosz
Join us for Afternoon Book Club on Saturday, August 15, at 2 PM at Chozen Yogurt. Students in grades 7 and 8 are invited to gather for great conversation, a great book, and a great drink. Your first drink is on us.
This month, we’ll be discussing "The Underwild: River of Spirits" by Shana Targosz. Senka lives between the realms of the Living and the Dead. Assisting Charon, Ferryman of the Underworld, Senka hopes to learn enough to become a fully fledged Ferryer of her own. While she has learned many of the rules of the Underworld, she is not sure why these rules are so important. The sudden arrival of Poppy, a living girl, forces Senka to consider whether those dubious rules are worth breaking in order to save another life.
Join Senka and Poppy as they explore lost and forgotten portions of an otherwise familiar underworld. Follow the river's flow as these new friends navigate ancient spirits and eccentric ghosts. Explore the uncharted territory of the Underworld and meet a number of spectacular characters and monsters of myth as Senka gets closer and closer to discovering why so much was hidden from her.
Afternoon Book Club is a welcoming space for students in grades 7 and 8 to share their thoughts, ask questions, and connect with other readers in a relaxed setting outside the Library. Whether you loved the book, had questions about it, or just want to hear what others thought, you're welcome to be a part of the conversation.
Free copies of the book are available for pickup at the Library while supplies last. Call 577.7323 for more information.
